I first heard about Taran guitars at a Martin Simpson master class and fell in love with the idea I could get a bespoke instrument built for me.
Rory explained the process to me and the tonality of the woods and what constituents I could throw in the pot to make magic. The playability of the neck was important to me and the Taran Mhor that was built for me is the most comfortable acoustic I have ever played. I felt part of the build process with regular updates and my feedback was always actioned. I designed a fiendishly difficult rosette that Rory took great care in constructing and it turned out better than I expected.
My guitar feels alive when it's played and that is down to Rory's skill and sensitivity.
I would encourage anyone who wants a bespoke guitar to work with Rory, it’s an experience where you find out what you need and he builds it.
