Our Workshop Extension!

2023 marked the start of a brand new and exciting chapter at Taran Guitars as we began the move in to our new 45m² workshop extension!

When Taran Guitars relocated to its home in Fife thirteen years ago, I moved in to one small section of the old dairy building - designing and building the workshop to suit my needs a sole luthier . As the business grew, the workshop grew along side it, making room for better equipment and the addition of Gemma and Zachie to the team.

As 2022 wore on, it became apparent that, with Caelin now a full time part of Taran Guitars, we had outgrown the workshop as it was, it was becoming difficult to work, and we were just falling over each other! There was an additional 45 square meters of the building left to convert which would give us the space we needed to spread out and concentrate on taking the quality of our instruments to another level. By extending and repurposing spaces, we would have a dedicated machine shop, new, larger finishing room, a new wood storage space, a dedicated bench room for Zachie and I, a set-up space for Caelin to work in, a new location for the office for Gemma and Caelin and a sperate space for a kitchen/relaxing area/client meeting room.

It meant more than just having the extra space though, it was a chance to really create something special, a workshop that reflected our ethos as a company and would inspire us every morning when we walked through the door.

Work started on the extension back in the summer and by the new year, it was ready for us to start moving in to - which meant all hands on deck! We had planned our guitar builds around this so we could continue to finish instruments while we worked on the extension throughout January and in to February.

There’s been so much planning, discussion, late nights and hard work that have gone in to creating our dream workshop, it’s really rewarding to see it come to fruition! We’re now coming to the end of the big move which was the first phase of the new workshop. The machine shop, bench room and set-up room are now more or less complete and we’re already back to the important business of making guitars!

The next phase will come in a few months when the new spray booth arrives and we can get the new finishing room up and running. Until then the old spray booth is still working and we’ll be able to continue finishing instruments.

We’re delighted with how the workshop has gone so far and we’re very excited to begin this new chapter for Taran Guitars which will see us push our work to new heights!
