Ash Rise - An Exciting New Project!

We’re delighted to be able to share that Taran Guitars, in collaboration with the fantastic Nicholas Denney, have been selected to be part of the Scottish Furniture Makers Association Ash Rise project. Nicolas approached us earlier in the year with an idea to incorporate ash into a design for an electric guitar which featured his cement veneer work.

In our first meeting he showed us his beautiful coloured cement veneers which can be applied to any surface and even curved surfaces. Together, we are aiming to create an innovative electric style guitar that celebrates the extraordinary capabilities of ash, particularly its flexibility and ease of bending. We also seek to redefine the perception of concrete as a heavy and functional medium by showcasing Nicholas's exceptional artistry within the realm of concrete. To further enhance the visual impact and to get the most out of this dwindling resource, we intend to incorporate natural dyes sourced from both the ash wood and its bark, creating pigments to colour the concrete details.
We’ll be working on submitting something special for their exhibition in the summer of 2024. Until then, here’s a sneak peek of what we’ve up to so far!

Ash dieback will completely transform our landscape here in Scotland so we are proud to be selected to participate in such an exciting project to help raise awareness of the impact of ash dieback and to celebrate the ash.
